The Story Of Dr. Who And Its Audios
Just about everyone in countries such as the UK, US, Canada, New Zeeland & Australia etc should have at the very least heard of the world famous Sci-Fi series DW by the BBC! Now that Dr. Who is back on television since 05 after it’s 15yr absence the serial has gotten considerably well known all over again, so mush so in fact that even the sci-fi channel has taken an interest in the TV series.
Doctor Who all began in November 1963 when it’s 1st episode aired on television taking the Doctor & his comrades back into the past where they helped some cavemen to use fire for the first time. When you take into account the all-new series DW is currently the longest running Sci-Fi series of all time!
With the huge popularity of DW, the BBC began making Dr. Who Audio back in the 70s for cassette and LP. The 1st releases were for the most part soundtracks from the TV shows with binding narration by the Doctors. But because of their popularity soon after stories were produced for Audio Book release only, often narrated by past Drs of the TV series.
To add to this the BBC began making radio episodes, again with past Drs who had played in the series, these stories were also made available in Audio format. Also a lot of of the lost stories have been re created by their original Doctors in the Audio Book format making them once more available to the general public once again. The range spans all the way though the first Doctor right up until the present Dr, David Tennant. Additionally Torchwood Audio & Sarah Jane Audiobooks have also been added in recent times.
On our planet today audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. Audios help us to get more out of our increasingly busier days, as we can easily listen to them while doing other things like working out, house work, driving, and other activities that permit multitasking. Another reason why individuals like Doctor Who audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the series. Parents also buy them for children entertainment in cars etc.
With the Doctor Who New serial going from strength to strength and more and more Audios being created available both from the old and new series & now from Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures as well, it looks like DW and DW Audio Books are here to stay for some time to come!
