How Can You Get Good Grades Working a Part Time Job?
Do you feel stressed about having to work part time while pursuing your degree? Are you looking for the proper balance between working and studying? If you can’t quit your job you need to embrace the fact that sacrifice is a necessary component of your success equation.
Focus on the big picture. You will likely make more money and experience more freedom on many levels if you decide to get your diploma. Now you will have to release on some things, like perhaps cutting down on your leisure time, but if you remember what you’re getting than giving up a few activities won’t feel nearly as difficult to do.
Remember why you wish to succeed with your schooling and you will never lack for motivation when you need to study more frequently and laze out less frequently due to your strict work schedule. Here are some tips that helped me through my college days, which include working a part-time job from day one.
Quiet Time on the Ride
Turn off your radio while driving to and from class. Devote these sessions to meditation, or simply relaxing, as you drive to and from school. Most times, listening to music is simply a diversion, a distraction, and most people come away from their commutes feeling as stressed as before the trip.
You have to stop wasting time if time is of the essence. A student working part time needs to be on point when it comes to spending time effectively. These quiet sessions during your commute will leave you calm, confident and relaxed, instead of stressed out. As you gain more confidence and peace of mind you will find that your study sessions become more effective, with you retaining much more information in less time.
Cut Back When Necessary
Ask your boss to cut your hours during particularly intense study periods. You might have a few final exams and an oral presentation due within a week’s time frame. This means you have to sacrifice money for the big picture, so let go the extra cash now to receive a larger paycheck in the future, armed with your degree, laden with honors.
Few folks think of their future when studying, so they refuse to make any sacrifices now. Your mind must be on the future when you are faced with making a sacrifice now, because you need to see what you are receiving by giving up something now.
Pull back on your hours when you need to devote more time to school. Any understanding, supportive boss will allow you to work less, to focus on your studies. If your boss doesn’t budge it might be time to get a new part time job. Plenty of opportunities out there for someone who wants to work.
Get Rest
In addition to cutting back your work hours during periods where you need to study more consider getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Receiving enough sleep keeps your mind fresh and helps you to retain information like a sponge during your study sessions. Pull back. Rest up. Turn off the TV and hit the sack. This information is cliché for sure, but there is a reason for that. Your brain needs adequate rest to work optimally.
