Bonsai

Watching bonsai develop and shaping them into beautiful living works of art is an absorbing and extremely rewarding pastime. Growing bonsai trees isn’t an expensive pastime with only a few specialist tools being required, but a magnificant bonsai can be more of a statement in your home than many ornaments can. A bonsai is a living sculpture.

Bonsai are pot planted trees that are grown to be miniatures of its natural size tree. Bonsai trees can be grown from nearly any perennial woody stemmed trees and shrubs that grow branches and is able to grow small through container confinement with the help from root and crown trimming.

Bonsai can be developed from seed, young shoots taken from the countryside, (please have regard for any local laws regarding removing wild plants in your area), or can be ordered as ready grown bonsai trees. Although growing bonsai from seeds is the slowest route, but you do have total control over how your bonsai tree will look.

Bonsai trees are planted in special pots that not only contain root development, but are also designed to further enhance the look of your bonsai tree. Specialist soils can be bought that provide the perfect conditions for your bonsai to develop.

Many techniques are used to sculpt and give character to your bonsai including leaf trimming, wiring branches, grafting, short term dwarfing and deadwood, (aging and adding character to bark). Only a few special tools are required to shape bonsai trees, and these can easily be bought cheaply. Everything you require to get started can easily be purchased from a bonsai nursery.

Bonsai trees can be had as indoor and outdoor varieties, and some bonsai trees are improved if they are left outside in the summer months and brought inside during the winter months.

For anyone that likes the idea, but would rather not get involved in growing bonsai, you can even buy artificial bonsai trees.

If you are wondering if developing bonsai is for you, I would say have a go, bonsai are easy to grow and maintain, and take very little of your time, each and every bonsai tree is individual, and who can’t help but to admire a bonsai every time they see one.
