It’s everywhere. Product manufacturers market it and we buy it. Advertising agencies maximize it. It’s idealized in books, T.V. shows and movies. And yet, it eludes us. It’s a mysterious. And if we don’t have it we presume miserable and like we’re missing the one thing that will make life better. More peaceful. More beautiful. Because, all things considered, “everyone else has it”. But we don’t so we know it.
But we WANT it.
We would like our life to work well, look well and feel happy. We want our life to think that a lazy afternoon over a beautiful summer day. We would like it to be stress- less, free-flowing and heck, we even like it to smell good. Huh?
O.K., The truth is that, I want my life to smell good, but I’m not sure about you. I understand I want my senses to return alive with all things beautiful and peaceful.
Coordinated and arranged.
Purposeful and meaningful.
But I needed to learn, I hate to say it, to select the flow. Because if I resist the flow, the thing I’m seeking teases me from a distance, yet is in plain sight, only an arms length away. Tantalizing me while using thing, the experience, the peace-of-mind I’d like from the thing we know as BALANCE.
Before I really could “find balance” I had to define what a balanced life looked like in my opinion. But that’s not what this article’s about. This article’s about zapping the “illusion” of that of a “life in balance” should look like, in accordance with the picture of balance we’re sold, again and again. Because whether we understand it or not, there’s an idealized picture of what well-balanced life looks like and then there’s reality. So, understand the following myths and then approach creating a life that feels great for your requirements and you’ll finally, fortunately, find balance.
1. Balance is really a one-time event.
If only! First, allow me to say, unequivocally, balance just isn’t something we arrive and turn into at. Balance is dynamic. Ever-changing. Moving. To be able to balance a bicycle you should keep it moving; to keep your life in balance you’ve have got to keep it moving. And when you progress anything there’s a chance for error. Crashing. Tipping over.
However, the other isn’t better. If we stay still, we run the danger of getting stuck in a rut. Trapped to much time in our fears. Without movement we stop growing. We stop experiencing interesting things. We just stop.
Therefore, as we yearn for a well-balanced life we will need to get moving AND toughen up. We’re going to get bumped and bruised along the way. And that’s OK, because each bump and bruise makes us stronger. It also makes us grateful for your times when we have no worries and challenges and enjoy the opportunity to sink into the sweetness of our own life.
2. Balance = Perfect
We’ve all been there. “When” such-and-such happens my life will THEN be happier, peaceful, balanced. Phooey! No such thing like a perfect life. If not a soul has ever said it for you before, I’m saying it again; There isn’t a SUCH THING AS A PERFECT LIFE!
Now, don’t get me wrong. As a personal growth enthusiast, I actually do think you can create a life that work well and feels great. Absolutely. But that’s nothing to do with perfection. It offers everything to do with acceptance.
We can’t maintain the flow and find the sweet equilibrium of balance if we can’t accept our life for the purpose it is today. Acceptance of what is releases us from the need to have things different, better, more. Acceptance permits us to experience the NOW more fully. It we can let our hair down. Acceptance allows us create our lives from a present frame of mind. And the only way to feel “balanced” is currently. Not tomorrow. Not yesterday.
Balance is centered on the NOW and has not do with perfection.
3. Balance is fluff.
Definitely not. However, I do agree, the photographs we see in TV ads plus in magazines make balance appear somewhat fluffy. But in reality, the real as a result of earth experience of balance is much from fluff. It is real. It’s a situation of present moment consciousness. It’s something we can easily feel in our body, within our minds and in our sprits.
You can create balance by tuning into our gut, our intuition and our feelings. We can listen to what our soul wants after which give it what it wants. Balance can be something we create on the inside, not something we “find” on the outside of. Balance isn’t so much about what we all do; rather it’s about who were being in each moment.
Balance requires our whole selves. It takes acknowledgement and awareness. Basically, balance is a state beyond what words can describe.
So when we feel it, we know it.
